Painting faces and skin tones is probably one of the most daunting subjects for most modelers. In this workshop, we are going to dive deep into this topic.

First of all, we will talk a little about the theory of painting and the anatomy of faces. In this part of the workshop, we are going to make use of the knowledge I gathered from years of fine art portrait painting.

But fear not — this isn’t a boring, theory-heavy day. We are going to apply that knowledge right away on a larger bust. Working in this slightly larger scale allows easy access to painting highly detailed faces. We are also going to talk about how to apply these techniques to both smaller and larger scales.

We will take a look at the techniques you need to paint realistic-looking eyes, as well as different facial expressions.

We are also going to talk about how to use different skin tone palettes and how to mix your own to either match a specific reference or to avoid having all the miniatures on your diorama look the same.

This workshop includes a high-quality academic bust and a wooden display plinth. During this workshop, we are going to paint the face and all visible skin areas of that miniature. You will also be provided with both a written and a video guide so you can apply your newly learned techniques at home. The necessary painting materials like brushes and paints are also provided. Everything you need to bring with you is the will to learn something new, and you will leave with a great-looking miniature.

At the end of this workshop, I will also take professional pictures of your miniature so you can show it off on your socials or in your local scale modelling group.
